About Alice : the girl who photographed everything twice

I'm just this girl. I live and work in central Edinburgh, where I share a lovely flat with the best boy in the world. I would say I grew up in east London and Newcastle, only I haven't finished yet. I think too much. I like amphibians and recreational smiling.

I also love photography, as you'll have noticed. I think the main reason for this is my inherent restlessness and wish for ubiquity; for as long as I can remember I've felt vaguely swindled by only being able to be in one place, with one person or group of people, at a time. Photographing everything twice (as my beloved brother puts it) allows me to hold on, gives me a chance to take precious people, places and things with me.
I love the sea because it's always changing on the surface but it's dependable; the essence, the heart of it stays the same. I think I'd like my beautiful friends, my wonderful family, my life to be like that.
I have a journal where I ramble excessively on about things like friends, fantasies, film and football, and a page at flickr where you can see many, many (some might say too many) more of my photos.

If you were wondering what the name's all about, it is from the song Alice, from the album of the same name, by Tom Waits, one of my favourite things. My awesome uncle Roli gave me a copy years and years ago, when I was just a tiny little grasshopper heading out into the big wide world (or leaving home to go to uni, whatever) with a note saying I should listen to it 'in dreamy weather', and I did, and have loved it ever since. You should try it too.

Of course, my name actually is Alice, too. I used to think it was too short, but then I noticed that actually, I'm too short, so it fits just right.
